Cocker Spaniel: temperament, care and good with kids

The Cocker Spaniel is a cheerful, affectionate, active medium-sized dog. They combine a love of movement with cuddliness — a rewarding family companion that needs coat care.
Temperament
They're energetic, people-focused and sensitive. They love both activity and cuddles but cope poorly with being alone. They can be spirited but stay manageable with consistent, kind training.
Good with children
★★★★
They suit children well — playful and friendly. Because of their sensitive nature, teach children to respect them and not overtax them, so they don't get overtired and nervous.
Care & upkeep
The long, wavy coat and long ears need regular care: brushing several times a week, ear checks and occasional clipping. The ears are prone to infections.
Exercise & daily routine
They need active exercise and occupation, ideally over an hour a day. Originally a gundog, they appreciate scent games and retrieving.
Can you handle the daily care?
